OUT NOW! SiiLHOUETTE –
Born in Accra, Ghana, SiiLHOUETTE®, moved to London with her family as a child. Always enraptured by movie musicals on TV, she soaked up the Rodgers and Hammerstein, Gershwin and Cole Porter classics. She also explored her mothers’ collection of eclectic music ranging from ACDC, Bob Marley, Blondie, Doris Day, Dolly Parton, Eddie Grant, Jim Reeves, Louis Armstrong, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder to The Andrews Sisters & The Carpenters & The Supremes “Reach Out And Touch” to this day being one of her favourites of all time.
This diversity was the introduction to many different genres and SiiLHOUETTE grew an appreciation for many more genres as they emerged. Always a creative and artistic child, she would, write poems day in day out and make up melody lines, later developing harmonies, duets and counterpoints before she even knew the technical names for the types of compositions she was creating.
A born writer, arranger, performer and organiser, she would always be involved in music via choral work and solo work via both school and church. At home she would practice covers of songs as well as original pieces and choreograph corresponding dances with a hairbrush in hand as a microphone and a T-shirt placed on her head as a show-stopping wig often imitating the likes of Diana Ross, Five Star, or Dolly Parton. Even at those tender years she would organise rehearsals with friends and cousins and follow up by scheduling performances and demonstrations for the entertainment of family and friends.
In her teen years she was introduced in greater depth to classical music, jazz, ragga and rap music. Strange mix, yes… but all absolutely true. Throughout those years you would not know whether she would be performing a Latin Aria or singing a German folk song for a school recital, whether you would overhear her rapping or chatting extracts from the likes of Salt & Pepper, London Posse, Patra, Beanie Man, Nene Cherie and Digital Underground, bringing the soul out of Hip Hop like MJB or trying to swing & scat like Ella, convey the spirit of the blues like Billie Holiday or almost live on the boundaries of jazz, soul and classical competencies like Sarah Vaughan.
Who says variety isn’t the spice of life? ;-D
Her experiences, observations of life & appreciation of varied musical genres are evidenced through her songwriting and her professionalism highlighted by her collaborative projects and her continuing fortune to be able to work with, be mentored by and have guidance from some of the best in the industry…. and this is just the beginning!
